For local artist Meredith Hannon painting is more than just a passion, it’s a calling. Meredith began painting in college after being inspired by poster prints of impressionist masters that hung on the walls of her dorm room. When she had the opportunity to repaint the walls of her room at home, she decided she would shoot for the moon by painting a mural of an Italian seaside village. She’s not quite sure what made her think that her first painting should be a full-sized mural, but it worked out and she hasn’t looked back! While Meredith’s style and medium has evolved from that first scene, that mural remains on the walls as a reminder of how it all began. Over the years, Meredith has switched to working exclusively in oils as a full-time artist, utilizing both brush work and palette knife. While she loves to paint, it is her desire that her work touches those who see it, and that it transports people as it hangs on their wall. Meredith is currently an active member of the ValeArts group (valearts.com) that shows twice a year in Oakton, Va and her work can be found in galleries in North Carolina and Grand Cayman, as well as in homes and commercial buildings in the US, Europe, the Caribbean, and Australia. More of Meredith’s work can be viewed on her website at paletteknifepainting.com.
