ThermiVa for Urinary Incontinence? YES!

Ladies say goodbye to those damp panties! Finally, a way to stop peeing when you laugh, cough or sneeze!

Urinary incontinence is a common issue among women, but sadly, not talked about enough. Most women learn to live with urinary incontinence by planning their days around frequent bathroom visits, wearing pads or by giving up activities that they once enjoyed. A little urine leakage when you laugh or cough may be common, but it is not normal and women do not have to live with it any longer.

At New Image Plastic Surgery Associates, Dr. Roberta Gartside is very sensitive to this subject and understands her patients who are suffering from this problem. Having had these same concerns herself, she is happy to share her own experience with ThermiVa treatments.

“I can speak from my own experience that ThermiVa works. For some patients it may help improve their symptoms and greatly prolong the need for surgery. For others, it may eliminate the need for surgery all together. It just depends on the severity of the diagnosis.”

ThermiVa is a painless non-surgical way to treat urinary incontinence that does not involve a prolapsed bladder. It works by stimulating natural collagen formation, tightening and restoring vulvovaginal tissues and muscles that support healthy bladder function.

Women will experience a greater degree of bladder control both at rest and during physical activities. Best of all, this procedure requires no downtime, allowing patients to return to their everyday lives right away. The procedure has an amazingly high satisfaction rate.

Here is what one patient had to say recently, “I received my third ThermiVa treatment. I love it! No more stinky poise pads and I can run without smelling like urine! Happy is an understatement!”

What are the benefits of ThermiVa?

Besides correcting urinary incontinence, ThermiVa is an excellent non-surgical treatment option for healthy adult women who desire to restore their vaginal appearance externally, rejuvenate vaginal health internally and improve overall sexual function. ThermiVa benefits are:

  • Tighter, smoother inner and outer labia
  • Improved nerve sensitivity
  • Tighter vaginal canal
  • Improved natural lubrication

This treatment can also be very beneficial for women who have undergone cancer treatment(s) and are experiencing hormonal issues but are unable to take hormone supplements.

How does ThermiVa work?

ThermiVa™ is an in-office, non-surgical procedure that uses controlled radio frequency energy to heat tissues gently through a thin “S” shaped hand piece. This heat energy stimulates collagen production, which tightens the external and internal vaginal tissues as well as increases blood circulation. The hand piece features a disposable applicator with gentle curves to provide comfort. No anesthetic or pain medication is necessary and there is no down time.

Each session is about 30-minutes and typically three separate treatments are recommended over three months, but patients can start to see results after only one treatment.

How long does ThermiVa last?

Depending on the patient and condition(s) treated, the effects can last 9-12 months after completion of all three treatments. Maintenance treatments can be between 6 to 12 months after the third treatment.

Who is not a candidate for ThermiVa?

There are very few contraindications associated with ThermiVa. However, it is not indicated for patients to undergo treatment in the setting of pregnancy, heavy menstruation, any active vaginal or bladder infection, recent abnormal pap smear, or an implanted pacemaker. A pelvic examination will be performed by Dr. Gartside prior to treatment to rule out any of these.

For women suffering from bladder and vaginal issues, ThermiVa is the perfect way to improve their feminine well-being. ThermiVa has a high satisfaction rate for reducing urinary leakage, boosting sexual arousal and improving vaginal dryness. To schedule your consultation with Dr. Gartside, call 703-742-8004 or go to
